Start as a seed, win as a tree!

In Photosynthesis, each player is assigned a tree type and takes their seedlings through a tree life cycle as many times as possible over 3-4 days (sun rotations around the board). There are only a finite of spots on the board to place and grow trees, which can be blocked in the shadow of other trees. Therefore, players must be careful when selecting certain spots to optimize the amount of sun they get. Positions closer to the center are worth more sun points but can be easily blocked by other trees. The player with the most points at the end of the last cycle wins!

This game was not my first choice as someone more into fantasy settings, but my wife wanted to try something a bit different. That being said, Photosynthesis was a wonderful addition to our collection. It is quite simple to learn and great for everyone at family game night. It also plays relatively fast and doesn't require a lot of back-and-forth to the rule book. Keep in mind, this game is about growing trees, which isn't particularly exciting, but players' strategies can get vicious!

Fun Fact: All components in this game are made from recycled materials.
