We picked up this game at PAX Unplugged a few years ago and as I write this, I realized I haven't played it in some while. It's been overdue, so Raiders will likely make an appearance this weekend. It's long enough with only 4 players, but there are expansions available. With that in mind, I do find this game takes the long part of 60-90 minutes. I find playing the Vikings soundtrack really adds to the ambiance as well. The rules are not particularly difficult to understand but paying attention to the different point systems is important because it's easy to lose track of other players' points which gets exponentially easier throughout the game. Furthermore, the art of this game is fantastic!

Raiders of the North Sea strikes at the heart of the Viking Age where each player takes on the role of a Viking. They raid and pillage local villages bringing back tribute to the Chieftan. This is a pseudo-deck building game, where players select warriors (cards) to help them conduct their raids. Fear not the loss of warriors along the way, in death, comes glory which means more points. As I mentioned there are several means to score victory points in Raiders: Valkerie (death during battle), Armoury (buying better Armour), Plunder held, Hired Crew cards, winning chieftain tiles, and of course raids. When one settlement remains, all Valkerie is earned, or all offerings are made, the game is over.
